Remington is recalling one of its popular "boom-sticks", the Model 887 shotgun. The reason? It was made with defective parts that can get damaged by regular use and cause it to fire when you're loading it.
This is a problem considering that a lot of people who buy guns tell you that a shotgun is the best home defense gun. By raising the risk to your family by having a 'home defense' gun at all, having one that might fire simply by loading it (and not touching the trigger) is even worse.
Hunting is also often done with shotguns and a gun that just goes off on its own does not meet any standard of hunters safety.
Remington dragged its feet on the recall trying like all businesses to blame other people first and then finally agreed there was something wrong only five days ago.
If you have a model 887, stop using it till you have made sure it is not defective.
