1. Fearlessness in the face of ebola.
2. Support of increase in property taxes.
3. Support in increase of fuel taxes.
4. Pro-environmental voting.
5. The Democratic party is a laughing stock
Allow me to explain...
1. Ebola Just a few weeks ago Dallas County judge Clay Jenkins was on KERA defending, with dignity, his decision to escort the relatives of deceased Ebola patient Thomas Duncan without wearing PPE or hazmat gear. He said he wanted to afford the family some dignity when they were not getting it from the general public, or his sleazebag racist opponent Natinsky who was making an issue out of it.
Clay Jenkins, Democrat, did not win without republican votes.
2. Property Taxes- Several bond proposals and even a constitutional amendment were approved by voters yesterday. Even in VERY RED Garland, Texas a bond passed to the tune of over 1/2 billion for the school system. This directly translates to higher property taxes.
This did not pass without republican votes
3. Fuel Tax increase- yes, the media -even KERA and NPR- allowed the republican PAC to push the "this is no new tax" bullshit line all the way to the end. In short, they are "diverting taxes" from the rainy day fund and from future "oil and gas production". In other words, it's a back door tax on fuel in an industry we already subsidize. They also want to divert car sales tax directly to road construction, which will take money away (tax) something else. This whole media campaign has been total bullshit. This is a tax through and through, and thus far I'm the only one who seems to give a shit.
This passed with heavy support from republican votes.
4. Pro-environmental voting Trust me, the friendly oil and gas pals mentioned in item 3 of this diary are already suing Denton County for the right to frack. Denton overwhelmingly voted to ban future licenses. And it was bipartisan. Already the republican propagandists, however, are blaming the college libs for the election results. Even though on the local news last night they interviewed conservatives who object to fracking.
The fracking ban passed with republican votes.
5. All of my adult life I have had to listen to republicans tell me that my ideas are bad, or communism, or socialism -whatever. And lately, I've had to listen to them say these very same things while they threaten violence and brandish weapons. Yet, here we are. It seems that a lot of my ideas were quite popular last night. Problem is they were propagated and approved by republicans. I didn't lose last night, the Democratic party did.
It's a whole new level of IOKIYAR. They spew hate against liberal ideas, and then the democrats give in and "reach across the aisle" and try to be republicans, then the republicans pull the rug out from under them and propagate the very same that they claim to despise (in me).
Republican support liberal ideas privately. Democrats support Republican ideas publicly. And it's time for this to stop. It's time to clearly delineate and distinguish between the left and the right. It's time to live and die by your ideas. It's time for honesty so that we can simply see what works. Because this does not work anymore.
A Revolution swept Obama into power, but he quickly acquiesced into the party fold. He said a lot of good things like "I don't like torture" and "we're all immigrants", but he also used republican talking points like "I cut taxes".
"I cut taxes?!" Since when is this a democratic idea? We know the middle class was built with taxes! We can't be ashamed of them. Look how many were approved by voters in Texas last night!
