It's Politico saying this, so think of Pravda under the defunct Soviet Union. But Republican governors have learned a lesson from the scare that Governor Sam Brownback got in Kansas with regards to his "bold" state tax cut. However, if you dig into the article, you see that Republicans have learned nothing, which is to be expected. This is more year end review silliness that we see from the media every December.
For starters, Republicans reject empiricism and facts. Being impervious to facts is a cornerstone of Republcian dogma, so real learning takes changing circumstances or new facts into account. I'd say that Politico's article on learning from Brownback's mistakes on taxes is built on sand, but building a foundation for learning on sand would be an improvement for today's Republicans.
Next up, if you read the article, Republicans are still addicted to tax cuts as a remedy for everything. The Republican governors are just trying to figure out ways to set a long enough fuse for the fiscal bomb of state tax cuts to go off in another governor's term. I suppose the hope is that it will be some dumbass Democrat who will be governor and have to fix the fiscal mess with deep spending cuts, or he/she will commit political suicide by proposing a tax hike.
Remember, Republicans LOVE to destroy government, and tax cuts are the first step to dismantling government. They will never give this tool up. Instead, we have one of the arms of the Republican Party telling us that Republicans have learned their lessons on tax cuts.
Yeah, right!
