Today is the day we fight back against unlawful NSA surveillance. "We" is a
coalition of more than 5,700 organizations, including the American Civil Liberties Union, Reddit, Tumblr, Mozilla, Daily Kos and Amnesty International.
"We" also includes some key corporate members, reminiscent of the coalition that came together to fight the undemocratic Stop Online Piracy Act.
Google, Microsoft, Facebook, and other tech titans collectively added their names Monday to a growing list of websites and organizations supporting a digital day of protest Tuesday against the National Security Agency's spy programs.
The Reform Government Surveillance coalition—which also includes AOL, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Yahoo—is the most prominent addition to a protest that has gained thousands of new supporters over the past week. "The ultimate goal is to provide more esteem for the USA Freedom Act and other measures and to ensure that [Sen. Dianne] Feinstein's so-called FISA Improvements Act never sees the light of day," said David Segal, executive director of Demand Progress, told National Journal last week.

Tell them to support the USA Freedom Act (H.R. 3361/S. 1599), an important first step in stopping mass spying, reforming the FISA court, and increasing transparency, and to oppose S. 1631, the so-called FISA Improvements Act. Feinstein's bill would entrench some of the worst forms of NSA surveillance and extend the NSA surveillance programs in unprecedented ways. It would allow the NSA to continue to collect the phone records of hundreds of millions of Americans not suspected of any crime and could expand into collecting records of Internet usage.
