Received this e-mail from Senator Mark Udall (D. CO) regarding Tea Party Senator Ted Cruz's (R. TX) anti-gay bill:
After shutting it down for three weeks in October, Tea Party Texas Senator Ted Cruz is trying to make the most of the government being open — by fighting to define marriage as solely between a man and a woman.
This week Cruz introduced a bill to change the federal government's definition of "marriage" and "spouse" — basically the 'Defense of Marriage Act' repackaged with the same anti-equality ribbon.
The U.S. Supreme Court overturned DOMA in June 2013. The Department of Defense ended "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" — its policy banning gays from serving openly in the military — an effort I was proud to lead. And 17 states have granted gay people the right to marry. The tide is turning. But Ted Cruz continues to step further back in time.
Will you join me in voicing your opposition to this anti-gay bill? Our families have come too far forward to let Cruz lead us backward.

Here in Colorado, the state legislature voted to allow civil unions for same-sex couples last year, but one of my Tea Party challengers, Owen Hill, introduced an amendment to exempt businesses from recognizing their rights.
When her colleagues overwhelmingly outlawed sexual orientation discrimination, Amy Stephens, another one of my extreme challengers, stood against progress and voted no. She also called Colorado's civil-union supporters 'cowards.'
And not to be outdone, Ken Buck made his stance on homosexuality known to a national audience when he compared being gay to alcoholism on "Meet the Press" in 2010.
My Tea Party opponents oppose commonsense solutions and stand on the wrong side of history. Any of them would gleefully join Ted Cruz's army of intolerance.
Please join me in support of marriage equality.
