Kos:
Republicans could've shared in the credit by working with Democrats to pass what was their Heritage-designed plan
.
Kos:
We weren't about to hit the streets to celebrate a Heritage Foundation-penned plan championed by the likes of Newt Gingrich and first adopted by a Republican governor.
Too Many Dkos Members:
Remember, the ACA is essentially built from ideas that came from conservatives.
WRONG!
The wrongness of this idea is so wrong it hurts the whole wrong side of my body just thinking about it.
To compare the ACA and the Heritage plan is ludicrous.
Markos,
I'm writing this diary for you. I don't care if anyone else reads it; I won't be satisfied until I know you have read it.
More below deck ...
You're wrong. and when you keep repeating the idea that the ACA is a Republican plan above over and over, other dkos members keep repeating it and no one thinks to challenge it.
The ACA isn't perfect. BUT IT IS GODDAMN AMAZING! I am a beneficiary. Self-employed, small business in Oregon. I now have health care through Medicaid expansion.
Read this piece by my (other) favorite progressive blog: Lawyers, Guns, & Money and tell me, Markos, if you can honestly keep repeating that Obamacare was a Republican plan.
The Heritage plan had the words "individual mandate" & destroyed Medicaid. Obamacare also used the words "individual mandate" and did something with Medicaid so therefore, Obamacare is a Republican idea. Nevermind that
1) The Heritage "plan" was an idea among thousands churned out every year by a think tank as a thought piece and had no relation to what Republicans actually wanted to pass.
2) Bbbut... but ... Romney! Romney was forced to sign the MassHealth plan because it was passed by a VETO-PROOF majority of Democrats in the legislature.
3) The Heritage plan essentially traded more coverage of the uninsured for dismantling every healthcare safety net progressives have championed including Medicare, Medicaid, the ability of states to regulate insurance, the ability to have your day in court, etc.
The ACA is a BFD. It's a first step. It's BOTH. Passed with no room to spare by a once-in-a-generation Democratic control of House/Senate/Prez & with a 5/4 squeaker in the Supreme Court with additional weakening. That's the system Obama & the Dems got this through. And I'm not willing to give Republicans one iota of credit for something amazing they have been trying to destroy. It doesn't help our case and it is just flat out wrong.
