Follow below the orange squiggle to see pics of what NormAl and I have started.
Below is my first of at least two hats. It is very basic. I cast on 85 stitches on 16 inch, size 8 circular needles, and did a knit 1, purl 1 for the ribbing and then changed to a straight knit pattern. I decided to add color stripes to jazz it up a bit. The 3 other hats I've made have all had lacework, but I thought that the color stripes would look better for this project.
Below is the scarf that NormAl is knitting. He hasn't knit in over 40 years, and then only 1 scarf before deciding knitting wasn't for him. He is, however, willing to give this a try. I think he is doing fine. The pattern is very basic: cast on 28 stitches on size 10 1/2 straight needles. Knit until done. He is using a self-striping chunky yarn.
As for what else I've been working on, it's three major projects; two quilting and one writing. For the quilting, I'm about 60% done with the memorial quilt for the Minneapolis VA hospital.
The second quilt project is the first quilt NormAl and I are making for the NN14 VA Nursing Home quilt project. I'm using a pattern called Friendship Star. It is a pretty basic pattern. You can see it here. I've started cutting out the squares. For this quilt, NormAl is being more a color consultant. It is being done in teal, brown, cream with a few dark red highlights.
The last project I am working on is a writing project. I finally finished Mrs. O'Leary's Boarding House: aliens only. It is a collection of short stories based on a premise of a boarding house in late 1860s Chicago that takes in aliens -- and I do mean aliens. It is mostly light and amusing. The writing is done and the cover artist has finished the cover, which I love. The anthology should be available as an ebook by the end of March and in paper version in April.
So anyone willing to share pics of their NN14 projects?
What else, beyond, NN14 projects, are you working on?
