Ok, so the buzz at Talking Points Memo is that Tom Coburn will push for a Constitutional Convention with the goal of ... you guessed it ... limiting the size of government and the over-reach of government.
"I'm going to be involved with the Convention of States. I'm going to try to motivate so that that happens. I think that's the only answer. I'm just going to go around and talk about why it's needed, and try to convince state legislatures to do it."
~Tom Coburn
Yeah, ok ... so Coburn went on to say
"We need a balanced budget amendment, we need term limits, we need the oversight capability to limit the bureaucracy in terms of its impact on the private sector. ... We need to have that discussion. And I want to tell you, the country's tuned for it."
~Tom Coburn
Emphasis added is mine.
I did not see where Tom Coburn said a "new & improved" Constitution needs to include:
Corporations are not people.
I phoned Tom Coburn's office and asked about whether he would include the Corps aren't people language in his new Constitution and they said they did not know.
expected....
I'm sure Coburn's announcement to re-do the Constitution to include "limit the bureaucracy in terms of its impact on the private sector" will give folks like the Koch Brothers that erection they've been waiting for because lord knows regulations - like keeping water and air clean - are a burden on the private sector and totally gets in the way of mega-profits.
Oh and the "balanced budget amendment" will be .... um .... awesome if you expect no wars, no natural disasters etc.
Who knows, maybe Coburn will even demand a repeal of the 13th, 14th, 15th Amendments which so many on the rightwing would love (see here)
Ah ... on the bright side ... Coburn's call to revamp the Constitution will add to job growth. Just think of all the trolls the rightwingers will have to employ to spew their hatred for the current US Constitution.
Ha! This is kind of ironic, Tom Coburn, and the Tea Party who claim to be the most American loving, Patriotic oxygen breathers on the planet actually loathe the US Constitution so they want to re-write it.
