Forgive this for being my second diary post of the day, but I've been catching up on some reading and need to vent. Has anyone else noticed how Representative Paul Ryan seamlessly alternates between his belief that Americans are a bunch of lazy "takers" and his belief that they are hard working folks who want opportunities, not handouts?
Well WHICH IS IT, Paul?
In his now infamous "brown bag" speech (it's been rehashed everywhere, so I won't do it again here), he essentially implied that Americans are, at their core, industrious little beavers, chomping at the bit for a chance to reap the rewards of an honest day's work (excuse my inter-species metaphor).
Yet in many of his other speeches Ryan implies that Americans who rely on Federal assistance to make ends meet are nothing but good-for-nothing couch potatoes content to loaf rather than work.
The only way I can reconcile holding both positions would be if what Ryan is trying to say is that we all begin our lives as industrious beavers but are ultimately lulled into a perpetual state of laziness thanks to the plethora of available government handouts.
Well, I personally believe that position #1 is correct - Americans ARE hard working and DO just want a fair chance. And so I must ask: Does Ryan really believe that people who are otherwise energetic go-getters would actually say to themselves, "Gee I've got big dreams and a can-do attitude, but I think I'll toss those aside in favor of $2 a day in food stamps." Sorry Paul, but that's idiotic - and the chairman of the House Budget Committee should know better.
All of which brings me to my request to the good people of Wisconsin: Please, PLEASE send this smarmy, self-serving little elitist to the same fate as Mitt Romney and put us all out of our misery.
