That's a new Senate Majority PAC ad that’s airing in Louisiana, tying Bill Cassidy, Republican challenger to Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu, to the Koch brothers.
Out of state billionaires spending millions to rig the system and elect Bill Cassidy. Their goal: Another politician bought and paid for. Their agenda: Protect tax cuts for companies that ship our jobs overseas. Cut Social Security and end Medicare as we know it. They even tried to kill relief for hurricane victims. Cassidy's billion dollar backers: They've got a plan for him. It’s not good for Louisiana.
Like the
ad Sen. Mark Begich is running in Alaska, this ad from the Senate Majority PAC shows what the Koch's national agenda means at the local level. In Alaska it's ruining the environment with an oil refinery, then skipping town to avoid clean up. In Louisiana it's preventing hurricane relief.
As Greg Sargent writes, this is about localizing the policy agenda of the Kochs, of the Republicans, of the 1 percent. It's highlighting for people what the larger policy fights about the minimum wage, about unemployment insurance, about emergency aid that happen on the national level actually mean on the ground.
The Kochs provide the perfect proxy for the 1 percent. They've made themselves that proxy by spending millions and millions to advance a policy agenda that benefits them and only them. This helps Democrats make the 2014 election be about the economy and jobs and basic fairness.
