That is, if I ever come across one, which, living on Manhattan's toney upper east side (in a walk-up with a bathtub in the kitchen, but still) is highly unlikely...
1) What percentage of people receiving welfare or food stamps do you think are committing fraud? [Then I'd tell them the actual percentage, which I'm sure someone here on Kos can provide, even though they won't believe it.]
2) Where are all those jobs deregulation was supposed to create?
3) Where are all those jobs cutting corporate and capital gains taxes were supposed to create?
4) Taking power away from the federal government doesn't make you freer; it goes to local elected officials who are much cheaper to pay off, and to corporations who don't want the government getting in the way of their profits.
5) Fox News has one goal: inventing scapegoats for you to hate - liberals, poor people, union members, etc. - to set us at each others' throats ("See that guy over there? He hates you; you should go over there and punch him in the nose") so we won't notice how corporations and big banks are ripping us all off.
6) Anybody who tells you "don't believe anyone else - we're the only ones telling you the truth" ... is the one lying to you.
Like I said above, Fox is playing us against each other - and that includes us. If we approach Fox viewers with anger and a confrontational "you're a jerk for believing that stuff" attitude (like I see in so many Kos komments) we've fallen into their trap. (Most) Fox viewers are victims of the network, not inherently evil people. If we communicate with them as equals (and - the tricky part - avoiding a condescending "I'm smarter than you" attitude) and even as potential friends, we just might win a few over.
