Mississippi activists are working on a coalition of groups which will hold monthly rallies at the Capitol, similar to what other states are doing. So far there have been two, on 2/27/14 and 3/13/14. The first rally was heavily supported by teacher's groups who were pushing for an education bill.
From the Facebook group page:
"For all who want to see legislation that is ethical, not pandering to favored groups, but beneficial to all. Boots on the ground are wonderful, but so are keyboard and telephone activists who will speak out against unethical bills and actions and let your state senator and representative know that you are watching what they do, that you will support his ethical votes but not his unethical ones, and you will support his opponent in the next election if he is habitually unethical."
I'm glad to see this, many of us have been working on coalition-building here, I have hope that this is the beginning of a state-wide, focused push for progressive legislation.
DISCLAIMER: I did not choose the name "Ethical Thursdays" so please do not fuss at me about it. ;)
