Mind, it's added two feet to the snowpack in the past few days, but it's been miserable.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I called my daughter Friday evening in preference to crossing the parking lot, it was raining that hard.
I've been wondering if it's the weather that's had my sinuses kicking up a fuss. I'm not prone to headaches, but I spent most of Saturday with a nasty one and a dripping nose.
I went to the dentist early Tuesday morning to get my teeth cleaned and checked. I'm good for another year. But I also went to work after, which is something I don't usually do - getting my teeth cleaned really wipes me out, and this is the first time since I left Los Angeles that I didn't take the whole day off. Unfortunately, final preparations for getting people off to the ACC meetings meant I couldn't do that this time - not that I had a huge amount of work to do on that, but I did have to do it on Tuesday rather than putting it off.
Another factor was that I was going to have to leave early on Friday. That was the day I got my car its 60K mile checkup. I took it in at 7:00 AM and was given a ride all the way to work - I got there only 5 minutes late, but only because the previous person had needed to go a lot farther than anticipated - I'd have been my usual early if things had gone as they ordinarily do. The guys working on Squatty found four items that need work which weren't covered in what they were doing. The most expensive is also the most urgent, and I should be able to get it done in about 6 weeks. The next most expensive is also the next most urgent, and it will have to wait a bit longer. I was told that as long as they're done before summer hits, there shouldn't be a problem.
I left work early in part to get some payday errands done during banking hours, and in part to avoid rush hour in the rain. Well, I managed to avoid the flooding, anyway - the first bus that would have taken me back out to where my car was being worked on never showed up. It got a bit soggy before the second, and the area around the dealership appears to be notorious for bad drainage, but I took the back way out of the parking lot and avoided the worst spot.
I did my usual payday errands Saturday morning and nearly lost my favorite hat, the wind was gusting so hard when I got out of the car at one stop.
Have you heard that a version of Beowulf translated by JRR Tolkien is being released in May? My oldest and dearest was all but drooling - so I pre-ordered it to be shipped directly to him. It turns out that the book's release date is the day before his actual birthday.
