Monday! Possibly the day Stratton* comes home!! (not his real name)
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
We have split up the publishing duties, but we welcome everyone in IAN to do daily diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!
Ok, we have a current diary schedule. If you would like to fill in, either post in thread or send FloridaSNMom a Kosmail with the date. If you need someone to fill in, ditto. FSNMom is here on and off through the day usually from around 9:30 or 10 am eastern to around 11 pm eastern.
Monday: BadKitties
Tuesday: bigjacbigjacbigjac
Wednesday: Caedy
Thursday: weck
Friday: FloridaSNMOM
Saturday:broths
Sunday: loggersbrat

We currently have one dog, one cat, and one fish, named Bobert. A perfect balance :) But DH went to the Dumb Friends League last week, and fell in love with a Chihuahua. He kept insisting that I meet her. So I went down there, and I fell in love with a cockapoo. But she got adopted while we were waiting to visit her! I worried that Chihuahuas were too fragile, and there were so MANY of them :( Shocking the way people just dump dogs when they're no longer the "trendy" dog. That was the desk lady's theory.
Seeing our glum faces, a nice lady suggested that we try a no-kill shelter in Denver. We went online when we got home, as it was too late to go down there, and found what we thought was the cutest dog:
Truman
I called early in the morning to ask if they would hold him. They said, "No." So I rushed down there to meet him, along with DS and a friend of his.
Truman is a great dog, but he is a couch potato :) He is very smiley and looks happy, but he wouldn't chase us or play fetch. He just sat there and grinned at us. We wanted a dog to play with Max. Cornelius, the cat, either ignores him or beats him up. Not surprising, since Max is 8 pounds and Cornelius is 17!
So I was hesitant. We NEEDED a poodle mix because of my allergies, and Truman is a Lhasa Apso-Poodle mix. But I went and looked in the book, and found STRATTON! I hadn't seen him online. He was busy being neutered, actually.
Our new doggy, Stratton!!
Stratton currently has a cone on his head and is almost completely hairless. He was found on the street. His coat was utterly filthy and so badly matted that he had to be completely shaved. The shelter isn't sure what he is, besides part poodle. Maybe someone can guess? I'm leaning towards him being a maltipoo, like Max.
He has a long curved tail with long silky hair :)
Stratton is PERFECT! He weighs 12.5 pounds, so not too big, not too little. He's about two years old. Nothing is known about him. He may not be housetrained. His teeth, though, are in pretty good shape.
So we filed an application. We had to provide three references, the vet's number, etc. It was very thorough. Stratton had to pass a cat test. He was put in a room with a cat in a crate to see if he went after the cat. He didn't, and passed :) Cornelius had to get a booster, which I was unaware of until the shelter called. I called the vet and begged for an appt. They were wonderful and I got one that night. Cornelius was most displeased.
Today we brought Max in for a "meet and greet." Max was not overly enthusiastic, but I suspect it was because of the distraction of the smells of so MANY doggies. He didn't DISLIKE him. Stratton was perfectly happy, and Cattus Minor fell in love with him right away. It was mutual. He crawled into her lap to snuggle :) He likes me, too :) And I love him.
We got approved today, but we don't have him yet. He has one final medical check, then I can pick him up either tomorrow or Wednesday :)
I almost forgot to write this diary because I was looking at patterns for crate pads and covers :) And then fabric :) We bought a new crate today, also a harness, leash, and collar. And another water bowl.
I've always been a cat person...but ever since we got Max, I do love cute little dogs now, too :)
Happy Monday!! I'm in such a good mood, I think that I shall spare you all and NOT write an April Fools' diary this year =)
Sun Mar 30, 2014 at 10:08 PM PT: The shelter is going to call and let me know when Stratton has had the medical check. I then need to rush down there (about 20 miles away) and take him to their clinic for his rabies shot. So, I plan to be here to host this diary, but if they call, I'm gone =) I told them I need to pick up my son by 3, so they're going to try and get him ready early. They're closed Tuesdays.
9:59 AM PT: JUST GOT THE CALL! Heading down to pick him up! Woohoo!
