"Next chance I get I'm going to shit on that bald rat's head"
You can't make this stuff up so I'm going to take the
New York Times seriously on this. Frankly the more I think about departing HHS boss Kathleen Sebelius running for Pat Robert's Senate seat in Kansas the more it makes sense, but talk about counter-intuitive.
Several Democrats said this week that Ms. Sebelius had been mentioned with growing frequency as someone who could wage a serious challenge to Mr. Roberts, 77, who is running for a fourth term and is considered vulnerable. One person who spoke directly to Ms. Sebelius said that she was thinking about it, but added that it was too soon to say how seriously she was taking the idea.
But could the punchline of a thousand Redstate jokes seriously win in the reddest of States? Well, in fact she has, most recently as Governor. She would also be running in a state that is extremely unhappy with it's uber-conservative Governor Sam Brownback, who is underwater in multiple polls to a named Democratic opponent. When your governor is sitting on 30% approvals it is a reflection on the Party policies.
Oh and did you know that Barack Obama's bat-shit crazy cousin is trying to primary Mr. Roberts? Yep, and the internets are buzzing with Tea Party vultures dying to see him go down. I doesn't help that his lack of a Kansas address (unused Lazy Boys don't count) has been a top of page one story in KS for 6 months and will stay there.
WOULD SEBELIUS WANT TO RUN
My first thought was "No and HELL NO" but... on further thought there are three very compelling reasons why she may very well be discussing this seriously with her family as we speak:
1. Revenge - In the nadir of her professional existence,
"What's that on my head?
Do I got shit on my head David?
Yeah, I got shit on my head... DAMN."
when Obamacare seemed to be swallowing the last shred of her legacy she had to deal with this:
...an old family friend who accused her of “gross incompetence” over the rollout of the Affordable Care Act and demanded that she resign as secretary of health and human services.
Yep, that was Senator and Friend Pat Roberts of Kansas.
2. Redemption - Yes, the ACA rollout ended on a great note but history is written by the victors and she is rolling out of Washington hobbled. As a lifelong civil servant she does not want that to be her reputation. A shocking win and a seat in the House of Lords would ensure her legacy is gold plated.
3. Career - She is out of work if you hadn't noticed. Yes, she can now apply for insurance through the exchanges but I don't see her as the retiring type. What other jobs could she apply for? A seat on a corporate board or an honorary university position might not be worth the effort, but bitch-slapping Mitch McConnell every day? That's worth showing up for work.
Sebelius can win. Dems want her to run. She has lots of reasons to run. Just run Kathy, run.
