On Wednesday, police scrambled to and scoured around a medical office building for suspects or victims after a call from a doctor was received describing a man holding what seemed to be a handgun.
The doctor added in his accounts to the Daly City police that after he lost sight of the alleged gunman, he heard noises that sounded very much like gunshots close to 1:30 p.m. PT, around the time that he was leaving the building.
Police Chief Manuel Martinez Jr. said later that evening, "We had a 911 call of a person with a gun, maybe one shot. We just finished searching the building and have not been able to find the suspect."
Police interviewed the occupants of the two-story building located at 1500 Southgate Ave. to gather more details on the man and the possibility of a gun being fired in the school building.
Many of those in the school were undergoing medical assitance programs, similar to online medical assistant programs widely available on the internet.
According to Daly City police Lt. David Mackriss, there were over 30 people in the building at the time of the incident. Those who were close to exits were told to evacuate the building, while others were instructed to lay low until the police arrived.
SWAT officers were quickly called in to take positions around the building, and nearby streets were temporarily closed. Businesses around the area were told close doors and stay safely inside.
Officers and SWAT team members searched the premises and surrounding areas, with no gunman to be found, who was described to be in his 60’s. However, bullet fragments were found in the building later, Mackriss said, confirming that a gun had indeed been fired.
"We believe it was fired in the direction of the doctor reporting the incident," Mackriss said.
Late Wednesday, after concluding interviews and detailed investigations, police arrested an 84-year old man residing in Daly City late Wednesday, approximately 2.5 miles from the medical center.
Police have not commented on what he motive for the shooting might have been, but state they are thankful that no one was injured.
Daly City is just across the southern border of San Francisco.
