Every Monday morning in April, May, and June there is a bird walk at Beaver Lake Nature Center in Baldwinsville, NY. Today was the first day I joined one.
Common Yellowthroat
Ruffed Grouse
More below the squiggle.
The walks are led by a retired music teacher who can identify birds by call. I'm not good at that so I take pictures. I would love to have a lens longer than 300mm, but cost and weight limit what I carry.
One of two warblers to make themselves seen. The Chestnut-sided Warbler.
A common sight at feeders, the Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Baltimore Oriole
"Rocky" the Ruffed Grouse. This grouse has set up a territory that includes part of a trail. He comes out and follows you until you are out of the territory, even a group of 15 people...
Unusual behavior to say the least. He'll even attack your feet if you aren't moving fast enough...
Update: Evening pictures from Great Bear Recreation Area in Phoenix, NY
There were reports of a Lawrence's Warbler, Brewster's Warbler, and a Blue-winged Warbler at Great Bear, all I saw in the evening were Yellow, Chestnut-sided, and Common Yellowthroat.
