Trey Gowdy and Darell Issa, chairmen of the GOP's committees #Benghazi
House Government Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, who until recently was the GOP's top dog on investigating Hashtag Benghazi, doesn't want the Republican base to forget who he is, so he's
issuing another subpoena to a guy who was a senator at the time of the attack:
Secretary of State John Kerry has been subpoenaed for the second time this month by House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) over the Benghazi attack.
Issa issued a new subpoena on Thursday after he and the State Department failed to reach a deal on documents related to the attack that have been demanded by Republicans on Issa’s committee.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi was quick to point out the absurdity of Issa's new subpoena just days after House Republicans voted to create a select committee on the two-year-old hashtag:
“Chairman Issa’s subpoena of Secretary Kerry calls into question the Republicans’ stated purpose of the Select Committee on Benghazi,” Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a quickly sent statement.
Pelosi and the Democrats have said Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) created the select committee largely to take the reins away from Issa, whose months-long probe into the tragedy has come under scrutiny, even by some top Republicans. Issa was not named to the select committee.
“The Select Committee is a sign of no confidence in Issa just as Issa’s action today is a sign of a lack of confidence in the Select Committee,” Pelosi said.
If Kerry responds to the subpoena, Issa is expected to ask whether or not Kerry was on Twitter the night of the attack, and if so, if he started following the #Benghazi hashtag before or after President Obama planned the assault. Issa may also ask Kerry where a good place to get tin foil is, though Republicans are thought to already have strong supplies of the material, prized on the right not only for its ability to wrap freedom freedom fries, but also for its utility as a fashionable form of headgear.
