So, I live in mostly in The Bahamas, though I spend some time in the US. I'm from here - my family goes back here 8 generations. We're a friendly nation. And now I find out that the NSA under Barack Obama - who was cheered on by the vast majority of Bahamians - have been taking EVERY SINCE PHONE CALL made on our cell phone system. I have a cell phone and I'm damn furious.
Here's the article Data Pirates of the Caribbean Part of me feels the need to point out that The Bahamas is not actually in the Caribbean Sea, but I understand why the headline writer couldn't resist. Here's a taste:
According to documents provided by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, the surveillance is part of a top-secret system – code-named SOMALGET – that was implemented without the knowledge or consent of the Bahamian government. Instead, the agency appears to have used access legally obtained in cooperation with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to open a backdoor to the country’s cellular telephone network, enabling it to covertly record and store the “full-take audio” of every mobile call made to, from and within the Bahamas – and to replay those calls for up to a month.
This just makes me see red. It's not that I've ever discussed anything of interest over my cell phone, but right now I want to punch somebody. How DARE they?
I'm going to post this diary now before I start ranting. I might add more after I calm down.
