Shenanigans by PA State Department employees overseeing ethics reporting of candidates seems to have cost a Republican challenger his long-shot chance to unseat the very unpopular Tea Party Governor Tom Corbett.
The Republican challenger to PA Gov. Tom Corbett, Bob Guzzardi of Montgomery County, lost his long-shot bid to remain on the Republican ballot for the May 20th Primary. As reported in the DelcoTimes:
" Justices Max Baer and Debra McCloskey Todd dissented, saying Guzzardi was “ready, willing and able” to file the statement on time but did not because a State Department employee said it was unnecessary. Guzzardi, an outspoken critic of Corbett and the state Republican establishment, said Thursday he was surprised that the party “spent so much time and energy to remove a Republican from a Republican ballot.” "
Shame there won't be a GOP primary fight; it would have been interesting, regardless of the competitiveness. Then again, I don't think this will be a popular move on the part of the State GOP. Hopefully it will peel away more supporters of Governor Corbett, and make it easier for Democratic challengers like Wolf, McCord, Schwartz and McGinty.
