Shit. Someone went on a drive-by shooting rampage in Isla Vista, where UC Santa Barbara is located, killing 6 people before being found dead himself.
KEYT reported that "witnesses described seeing a black BMW speeding through the streets, spraying bullets at people and various targets." Six minutes after the first emergency call, the suspected gunman traded fire with sheriff's deputies, and the vehicle plowed into a parked vehicle, Hoover said.
The suspected gunman was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound, she said, adding that it wasn't clear whether the death was self-inflicted or whether deputies killed the suspected gunman. A semiautomatic handgun was recovered, she said.
From admittedly a sleazy British tabloid, the
Daily Mail, which doesn't care about immediately publishing the names of the victims and perpetrators in these kinds of cases, it seems the killer is the son of the assistant producer of
The Hunger Games.
Authorities are examining a video posted on social media by the shooter in which he rants about women who supposedly rejected his advances.
The video is called 'Elliot Rodger's Retribution.'
Rodger, a Santa Barbara City College Student and Isla Vista resident, according to his social media accounts unleashed a tirade about his 'loneliness, rejection, and unfulfilled desires,' and blames women for preferring 'obnoxious brutes' to him, 'the supreme gentlemen.'
This brings back bad memories of what
David Attias did in his rampage at UCSB back in 2001. Two of those killed in that murder spree were good friends with one of my friends at UCLA. Attias was also the spoiled jerkwad son of a Hollywood producer/director.
Too many goddamned parallels.
11:39 AM PT: An update from the BBC:
The lawyer for the alleged gunman's father, Peter Rodger, said his son was diagnosed with "highly functional Asperger's syndrome" as a child.
His mother contacted the police and a social worker after a YouTube video was posted recently, the lawyer added.
