In case you don't know because you have better things do like snake your toilet or rake out your rain gutters, Christian-Sharia philosopher and Bible-Fetishist Phil Robertson the would-be "Duck Commander-in-Chief" (as he was so dubbed by Saint Sarah of the Palinite Mountain Klan] decided to share his thoughts with the Conservative Faithful concerning what's wrong with the kids these days when if comes to all that mass shootin' and stuff.
Robertson then quickly turned serious, addressing the separation of church of state. He quoted John Adams, who wrote that “[i]t is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles on which freedom can securely stand…You lose your religion, you lose your morality, and you lose your freedom.”
He then quoted James Madison, who wrote that “[r]eligion is the basis and foundation of your government,” before complaining about the exclusion of the Bible from public school classrooms.
“Education is useless without the Bible,” he said, before speculating that many crimes could be prevented if the Bible was allowed back into the classroom. “If children were taught to ‘love thy neighbor,’” he said, maybe they wouldn’t consider shooting up their schools.
“Separation of church and state?” he asked. “I’m telling you right here what the founding fathers said. Does it sound to you like separating God almighty from the United States of America?”
Well those weren't
all the founding fathers. In fact one of them, who also became President,
James John Adams, wrote the following in the
Treaty of Tripoli.
As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen [Muslims],—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan [Mohammedan] nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.
So much for all the founders being of "one mind" on the issue. I would say that when they came together and crafted the Constitution, they
completely failed to mention anything about God, particularly a scowling about the gays, Evangelical Right-Wing God, let alone requiring him in our lives, our government or our schools.
But let me go beyond the quite obvious things Bible-Spouting Constitutional Know-Nothings like Phil Robertson probably should be fully aware of yet conveniently aren't, there's also the question of just how effective have Bibles in the Classroom been as a deterrent to Gun Violence?
Well, not all that well I'm afraid. Details over the flip.
7 Dead, 3 Hurt in Oakland Christian School Shooting
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A gunman opened fire Monday at a small Christian university in California, killing at least seven people, wounding three more and setting off an intense, chaotic manhunt that ended with his capture at a nearby shopping center, authorities said.
The gunfire erupted around midmorning at Oikos University. Heavily armed officers swarmed the school in a large industrial park near the Oakland airport and, for at least an hour, believed the gunman could still be inside.
Now clearly, this had to be the work of an
outsider - someone who
hates poor helpless Christians, not someone who was affiliated with this school in anyway, yes?
Those connected to the school, including the founder and several students, described the gunman as a former nursing student, though there were conflicting reports about his current status.
Yeah, well - ok. Anyhow that's got to be an exception not part of any kind of pattern.
Teen boys hurt in shooting at Agape Christian school
ORLANDO, Fla. —Two teenagers were hurt in a shooting at a Christian school in the Pine Hills area Friday afternoon, according to investigators.
Deputies and rescuers rushed to Agape Christian Academy on Hiawassee Road after reports of shots fired. A 16-year-old was shot in the hip, according to an Orange County Fire Department official. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
And then there's this.
Suspect in NC Bible school shooting claims self-defense
ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. --The man charged with killing a fellow student at Mid-Atlantic Christian University is claiming self defense, according to search warrants.
Christopher David Amyx surrendered and was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on a first-degree murder charge, Elizabeth City Police said.
Authorities say Jonathan Schipper of Havelock, NC and Amyx apparently got into an argument in a second-floor dorm room at Pearl A. Pressley on Sunday.
I would argue that apparently his Bible School teachings really didn't help him learn to "Love his Neighbor", because he
killed his neighbor in an argument.
I suppose to old Phil, something like the murder of Dr. George Tiller in his own Church just wouldn't have happened if there had only been a Few Bibles Around, and the Knoxville Tennessee assault on the Unitarian Church by James Adkisson wouldn't have happened if only - well, y'know - they were any real Christians nearby or something.
Look Phil has every right to believe in Unicorns, Magic Beanstalks, Virgin Births, the power of Mystical Healing, Cities that Vanish into Dust, or Rivers that open Land Bridges for escaping Israelites all he wants to - whose to say there aren't things in the world we don't yet understand - but he doesn't get to make up bullshit about Magic Bible Bullet Shields without getting called on it because that's something we do know about and we can prove is simply crap.
See the thing is that the answer to every question under the sun, actually isn't "Jesus".
What time is it Phil? "Jesus-O-Clock".
What day of the week, Phil? "Jesus-Day".
How's the weather, Phil? "Jesus-Hot!".
When are you gonna stop constantly talking about Jesus, Phil? "About Five minutes after Jesus-O-Clock on another Hot Jesus Day In H-E-Double-Hockey-Sticks".
Oh, ok, never then.
