WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
This waterproof resin birdhouse or bird feeder is shaped just like a closed-circuit TV camera. You (and your cat) can keep an eye on the "lens" to watch Bird TV. Aim the camera for your front door, and burglars who aren't paying too much attention may be dissuaded. That is, until it starts chirping. Then all bets are off.
So now my worry is about home security, wherein I have to commit to some form of house sitting and/or security system, in case I have to go to the coast in the next few weeks. I cannot take my bird on a plane so she gets kenneled at the avian vet. There's not much in the house and it's covered by insurance so even though everything is an anxious memory or trigger, it's mainly protecting against some sense of violation when material objects get stolen or just misplaced.
But the real trick is trying to travel with a person in their 80s especially if it's not a vacation although like the problems of finding ride-share partners there could be an "app' for that eventually, although there is a formal/ informal set of cottage industries to provide such companions.
Many times the elderly are unable to travel on their own. Certain individuals may be: too frail, too ill, lack the mobility or mental capacity to travel long distances independently.
The trip should be planned and structured with consideration to accommodations your loved one may need. This includes travel assistance, dietary needs, and scheduled breaks to unwind. Be sure to schedule meals, medication and relaxation for similar times each day to keep stress and anxiety levels down for your loved one.
So it's that time for medication and relaxation.... come below the squiggle for more or less stress and anxiety.
Sorry to say, mom's not so much a loved one, although I do have the same level of affection I've always had for her (as my mother, although not as my parent) through all her years of expecting the world to be the 1950s, everyone in their place and self-reliant, despite institutional racism and sexism. I've tried to use the time to explore her lucid moments for her history before she met my dad, although acquiring a spouse was that goal, not so much finding a career or being independent, as I discovered when dad moved out during my teens. I finally watched a complete episode of Madmen on television which as I expected was a much more carefully crafted, yet surreal stylizing of 1960s office life after Desk Set yet still relevant to contemporary office politics, which leads me to the last FP. So I had hoped to get a call from the CEO who was on vacation last week when I interviewed on-site, but since I haven't heard a peep and since the other two candidates were interviewed this week, it's "no-news-is-bad-news" again about full-time work. OTOH I don't have to move to the middle of nowhere (or at least nowhere can been seen from the outskirts). On the horizon: nothing substantial, except sadness and stress. So what's your F*ing Problem?
