During a CLE seminar, the instructor turned off the lights and turned on a video. What I saw turned my stomach. Divorce Corp is a frightening view inside several states' divorce industry.
Taken at face value, the stories told by the victims were horrific. The expenses, costs and waste were mind-boggling. Some of the child custody experts were exposed to be frauds, or in collusion with one of the sets of attorneys. Worst of all, several of the "most successful" experts were appointed by judges who received substantial campaign donations from . . . the very same experts.
Several judges should be tossed off of the bench, if the allegations were 100% true.
On the other hand, there are two sides (often more) to any story. I have no doubts that some of the one-sided attacks in the docu-movie would have had a totally different impact had the other side (party, attorney, witness, even judge) had an opportunity to respond or explain.
Still, this movie is a damning statement about how justice is not served in too many cases.
As a lawyer, I found some of the allegations were particularly disturbing. I have experienced some firms who play such games and always seem to have their own financial interest at heart, instead of doing what is best for their clients. Luckily, those examples are rare, and the vast majority of lawyers are ethical, hard-working, and dedicated to their clients' best interests.
I strongly recommend this video (available at Amazon). It will open your eyes and raise some hairy issues.
