In 20+ years in the US House of Representatives for the 3rd Congressional District of North Carolina, what has Walter Jones Jr. really accomplished? What can he point to as a Statesman to hang his hat on in the 2014 elections?
Walter Jones Jr. is the son former Congressman Walter Jones, also from the 3rd District of North Carolina, but does this make him qualified to be a Congressman? In my opinion...NO!
When you dig into what Walter Jr. has done in his 20+ years in office you will find a dismal performance record. For example in 2013 he wrote no bills. He had no legislation of his own origin, preferring to simply sign on as a co-sponsor of over 400 bills in 2013.
Jones Jr., from Jan-Mar of 2014 has missed over 37% of role call votes so far this year. That's over one out of every three votes....What is this guy doing?
He has no leadership skills per say, at least according to his Republican colleagues that control the US House of Representatives. Walter Jr. has no standing on any committee controlled by the GOP. He neither chairs a committee nor is he a ranking member on a committee in the House, according to GovTrack.us
So what are the citizens, and constituents of the 3rd District getting for their $179K in salary a year? Not much if anything. When you drive through the District you will find hard working people, allot of poor people, and people who are waiting for someone to do the things they promised 20 years ago.
What's just as astounding is that for the people of the 3rd District there is no help coming from the North Carolina State House. In fact, Governor Pat McCrory presides over Government that gives millions to Duke Energy, while slashing social program, public schools money, eliminating Pre-K programs, and reward his cronies in Duke Energy for polluting the drinking water by making the already hurting people of North Carolina pay for the cleanup. All this going on and not a single word from Walter Jr.
2014 is a pivotal election year for the citizens of this country, and especially in North Carolina. If change can occur it must start now with the midterms. I urge my fellow Americans to go to the polls and vote. If you want more of the same in Washington then vote the status quot....if you want change we have to show we want it, by casting our votes to kick out the Obstructionist, the Deceivers and those that would continue to reward the wealthy, while stepping on the throat of poor and the working poor in this country.
