It is days like today that I thank God that John McCain will never be President of the United States. There was a time during the 2008 campaign that my worst nightmare was that having chosen Paling as his Vice Presidential running mate that he would compound that complete lack of judgment by appointing Lindsey Graham as Secretary of State. The American people decided to just say no thank you. Today we have some evidence what my nightmare would have looked like on steroids.
Steve Clemons has written a chilling piece regarding McCain, Graham and the former Saudi ambassador to the United States.I know we all remember McCain trying to force President Obama to arm the Syrian rebels. When that failed it appears that McCain forgot that he was not elected POTUS. It appears McCain decided to encourage the Saudis and the Qatari governments to arm the rebels and arm them they did, with the Saudis arming guess who, that is right ISIS.
As late as January of 2014 he was praising the Saudis for their efforts. The report is that once the Saudis met with President Obama they fired Prince Bandar who was leading this covert effort. The Saudis have denied arming ISIS but the report indicates that the Prince just got rich private citizens to do the job.
Of course that weak President Obama that had warned we couldn't determine who were the "good " rebels in Syria, and that even if we could we wouldn't be able to insure that those arms wouldn't fall into the wrong hands.
So you can only imagine how much worse this situation would have been if McCain had been POTUS. ISIS ia a horrible group and INMHO McCain has helped them destabilize Iraq and endangered Lebanon. There may not be any easy answers to the disaster that is spreading through the region but one thing I know for sure is that Senator McCain (R-AZ ; Hawk at large) always reacts without ever thinking about the potential consequences of his actions. He is dangerous and now ISIS has taken over large portions of Iraq and it started with McCain playing a part in arming the rebels.
