My first diary after many many many months of reading the other diaries here.
Being born and raised in Wisconsin and now raising my children in Wisconsin as well, I have a lot to be proud of in this state - aside from three recent politicians of course.
I'm sure all of you are aware of the ads Scott Walker and his friends are running attacking Mary Burke regarding Trek's outsourcing of employees to countries like China. (Pausing for your gasps of shock and to take you below the squiggly)
The news cycle for the outsourcing at Trek hasn't even dried yet and I came across this article tonight (published yesterday): Gov. Scott Walker tours Wauwatosa's Briggs & Stratton plant. While it's great jobs are going to be added in WI, I couldn't help but wonder what good ol Briggs and Stratton does as far as out sourcing is concerned. Google is very helpful sometimes.
In case you're not interested in reading through the multiple articles and posts Google so graciously found regarding Briggs and Stratton not producing all their engines and parts in the US anymore, I will save you the trouble... They don't. They make a lot here (I should really say assemble a lot of the here, with parts from here and abroad), but they, like Trek, outsource.
On top of that "revelation" (that B&S outsources, not that Scott Walker is an idiot for going to B&S at this time - everyone already knew that fact), there was also this nice article, also from yesterday: "...at least four more companies that outsourced Wisconsin jobs have benefited from WEDC tax credits." Wkow has changed the headline from: "WEDC awarded money to four more companies that outsourced jobs" to a much more Scottie favorable: "UPDATE: Gov. Walker supports blocking WEDC awards for companies that outsource" which is unfortunate, but not surprising.
Shaking my head....
A short diary, but alas, it is my first one. Plus my 4 month old is now hungry.
