This is a series of diaries highlighting animal rescues around the country and noting and celebrating the work they do to help animals who have no voices but ours to speak for them. I have decided to make this a daily series because there are so many wonderful rescues out there who need human help and weekly just doesn't seem to be enough. I have long wanted to start a rescue but lack the resources or time available to do so right now so this is my attempt to do my part. I hope that these rescues will benefit from the kindness and benevolence of the community here at Daily Kos. They are amazing organizations and worthy of Kossack attention and care. Today's diary is a tribute to Robin Williams and his rescue pug, Leonard. While there is not much we can do to relieve the sadness we feel at Robin's death, there is much we can do for the shelter that gave him the dog he referred to in this way, “I also have a gay rescue pug called Leonard, who I take for walks, because I am very secure in my sexuality. He has a boyfriend and they are planning to adopt a Siamese kitten together. We’re very modern.” Maybe with a gift of kindness we can help alleviate the pain we all feel.
I am here, alive and all around you
I have no voice
In your trees, your air, your fields, your oceans, your world
I have no voice
I am a mother, a father, a protector, a soul
I have no voice
I can walk, crawl, sing, fear
I have no voice
You must be my voice

Mission
Curly Tail's Mission is to rescue owner surrendered, puppy mill rescues, homeless, unwanted for any reason, sick, or injured Pugs.
We fully rehabilitate medically needy pugs. We also provide behavior modification (if needed) to help place them into loving, permanent homes. Our goal is to set up our pugs for success!
We strive to educate the public in every possible way to help reduce the # of pugs & all animals needing rescue, shelters and the like.
We have placed pugs throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, New England Area, Rhode Island..... often as far as Maine and New Hampshire! Although, we will take any pug in need from any location. Visit our website for more information

Have your little ones join our Curly Kids Program
Curly Kids is a division of Curly Tail focused on involving young people in rescue activity. We feel strongly about educating kids about the proper care of their pets, the importance of animal rescue and being a volunteer in your community. It is a great way for young people to do something positive independently or a great way to do something good as a family!
Here are just a few of the ways our Curly Kids help:
Make Curly Kid Thank You Cards for people who donate - this can be done from
home with your child!!!!
Posting Curly Tail Fliers at their schools and other public venues
Join us at local Curly Tail Events and help the volunteers look after the
pugs
There's lots of other ways to help here
Curly Tail made the following statement regarding Robin's death:
We at Curly Tail greatly mourn the loss of the great Robin Williams.
Robin was a fearless actor and comedian, but also an adoption advocate and pug dad! In 2009 Curly Tail took in a pregnant puppy mill survivor named Clementine. All but one puppy in Clem's litter died, and Curly Tail worked hard to ensure that both Mama and little Flannery survived.
Robin was TRULY committed to rescue & working with Curly Tail for several months, with the adoption in the works since that November. In March 2010, the puppy, now Leonard (pictured here), joined Robin at home and was officially adopted.
We are so thankful to Robin for his unforgettable creative work, but also for his generous heart, and for opening his doors to a rescue pug.
Thank you Robin! We are eternally grateful
