Hi again beer fans! Happy Friday! Stop in and share a cold one with us.
In general I prefer to leave the political discussion to every other diary here and out of FNBB, but I can't resist these two interesting stories that illustrate how the brewing industry, then and now, doesn't always treat its workers very well.
I doubt this is new to the web, but I just found it today: George Orwell's stories of going to Kent to work the hop harvest.
on hot days there is no pleasanter place than the shady lanes of hops, with their bitter scent – an unutterably refreshing scent, like a wind blowing from oceans of cool beer. It would be almost ideal if one could earn a living at it.
Check this out. This is how the working class lived less than 75 years ago, and if the bosses have their way we'll be back there again.
and here, and now:
delivery drivers are suing AB-InBev for wage and hour violations. As in 1931 the issue is "piecework", where you're paid by the bushel or the case not by the hour.
Anheuser-Busch InBev has been hit with a $5 million lawsuit by a pair of its employees who say the beer-brewing giant failed to pay its truck drivers for overtime hours and did not allow them to take meal and rest breaks.

I've got homebrew, and one Drake's Denogginizer for a little later. What are you drinking? Is anyone brewing?
