Random thoughts of the day:
The Guard is and the curfew is off. Let's all cross our fingers and pray that this works. Frankly, it has to. Ted Rall has a great take in his column. He says it has sparked a necessary national dialogue on racial profiling. Those who are taking Obama and his administration to task for overplaying the racism card need to come out of denial. Sadly, our first black President has made racism more visible in America, not less.
Can we have a moratorium on Ice Bucket Challenges already? Supporting good and worthy causes should not be turned into trendy, fun fads. Notice the people who have the skills to find an ALS cure aren't wasting their time dumping H2O on themselves. They're working on that cure (i hope).
Facebook will now label false news as "satire". By that standard, I hereby nominate Sean Hannity for best lead performance in a comedy.
Along that line, those who think we've either abandoned or not done enough to help Israel during this Gaza mess need a wake up call. Israel seems to be able to defend itself quite well, thank you. Those under siege in Iraq like the Kurds are the ones who need military support more. Maybe we can send them some of the stuff we've been over-arming police forces with over here.
After further review, both sides are wrong in the Rick Perry brouhaha. Madame DA was wrong not to resign because of her DUI (or at least take a leave of absence). And Governor Good Hair (thank you, Molly Ivins!) was wrong to threaten her by taking away her funding. After all, the target of her investigations was him. Texans have a right to know their Governor is not a crook, to paraphrase Tricky Dick. Besides, this bozo'll just shoot himself in the foot again so let him be.
Until next time, Kossacks!
