"You're correct sir, this bag is very light. I'll get right on it."
I understand how the market for MRAVs has taken a beating since 2011 and I always feel sorry for defense contractors. It's hard to make a living when all you have going for you is no bid contracts with unlimited over budgeting doled out by Generals who want to stop working as buyers at $80,000 a year and come work for you when they retire at 45 as salesman at $250,000 a year. So if you can't get enough equipment blowed up in the field how do you keep justifying a half TRILLION dollar defense budget? Give shit away... that's fargin' brilliant.
"You're a GODDAMNED GENIUS Gump!"
So if you don't need any more shit, but you are incentivized to buy shit, you give your shit away. "Ferguson, meet Tank." "General Dynamics, I need to order another tank please."
So why can't this work in more productive spheres. Hey, it's only a matter of time. Jump down the rabbit hole below.
As medical Mary Jane becomes more and more ubiquitous you have to imagine that more and more of our boys are going to need marijuana for glaucoma, PTSD, and regularly scheduled sexual harassment "training". Since the Defense Department is the biggest market in the world for just about anything consumable or combustible, and pot happens to be both, it just makes sense that the US of Freakin' A should lead the world in pot purchasing. All we need is pot companies with the cash to pay off Generals nearing retirement and with legalization, that should be in 3,2 1.........
(DENVER POST/MARIJUANA SECTION)...June was the best-selling month yet for recreational pot in Colorado, with $24.7 million in total sales, according to state tax collections reported Friday.
Recreational pot sales were up more than 19 percent from May sales, an increase likely attributable to more stores opening.
That's one month in Colorado. This is real money and no one follows the money like the DOD.
(NAVY TIMES) In the 2012 fiscal year, the Navy reported $91.9 million in distilled spirits sales, compared with $39.3 million in wine and $62.3 million in beer. The Navy uses 70 percent of the profits from its sales of alcoholic and non-alcoholic products to support morale, welfare and recreation programs.
Yes, the "morale, welfare and recreation..." of Navy purchasing officers is greatly benefited by keeping our sailors liquored up with reasonably priced Captain Morgan. Since the armed services are pretty well split between "juicers" and "smokers" that says that Navy appropriators are missing out on hundreds of millions of dollars in "morale, welfare and recreation" dollars. Just give it time.
But, like anything else the DOD buys, "Patriots Pot" should be way overstocked within a year or two so why not initiate a "Surplus Medical Marijuana" program for local police departments, especially those who are dramatically impacted by rampant legalization. Think about it: if pot is legal you won't have nearly as much to seize. This is a crisis in the waiting for small, under budgeted po-po.
But what good could come of this government giveaway?
I don't think this ociffer will be in the mood to shot anyone today for jaywalking.
Penn & Teller can do PSLs about proper crowd control using Police Pot.
Predators, Terminators & Barbarians can be subdued without those embarrassing taser stains.
Unconvincing undercover outfits work so much better with a heavy waft of ganja.
For countless reasons the (proposed, just a rumor) Pentagon Surplus Medical Marijuana Program is community policing AND governmental waste we should all get behind.
