Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) has launched a television ad in Spanish that accuses his challenger, Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), of cutting housing voucher funds for veterans.
"We respect their service. And we believe our veterans deserve the same respect when they return home," a narrator says in Spanish at the start of the advertisement.
"Congressman Cory Gardner and the Republicans in Washington: A misstep for our veterans, our community and our Colorado," the narrator concludes.
The ad, which is being coordinated with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, claims that Gardner supported cutting the vouchers as part of a vote for a 2011 bill to fund the government. The plan included a provision that would have cut $75 million for housing vouchers for homeless veterans. - The Hill, 8/25/14
It's actually a good move from the Udall campaign:

The ad will run on Univision and Telemundo in Denver and Colorado Springs from now through Election Day in November.
Udall’s campaign said it decided to focus on veterans issues in its first ad aimed at Latino voters in part because they believe Gardner’s position in a House GOP caucus that blocked comprehensive immigration reform is already widely known.
“Hispanics aren’t single issue voters,” said Kristin Lynch, Udall’s press secretary. “They care about lots of issues: the economy, immigration, veterans.” - KDVR, 8/25/14
Udall's in a tight race and the DSCC has been upping their ad buy:

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, or DSCC, ordered $1 million in ads to run for the next two weeks, the group's first advertising to help first-term Sen. Mark Udall and his close re-election bid. Millions of dollars already had been spent in Colorado, and millions more were expected to come in the final push toward Election Day.
In the 30-second ads, Democrats warn that Gardner sought to change Colorado's constitution to roll back abortion rights and outlaw the procedure in the cases of rape and incest. Gardner, a second-term congressman, also has co-sponsored an anti-abortion bill in Congress, the ad concludes.
"Why do guys like Cory Gardner think it's any of their business to tell women what do?" a young female voter asks into the camera.
Adds an older woman: "Cory Gardner is way too extreme for Colorado." - ABC News, 8/21/14
And big name Democrats have been hitting the campaign trail for Udall:

Democratic New Jersey Senator Cory Booker blew through Denver this weekend to canvas with Senator Mark Udall on the opening day of Udall’s northeast Denver campaign office. Also attending the packed event were Colorado’s Senator Michael Bennet and prominent black leaders in the state including Rep. Angela Williams and Councilman Albus Brooks.
Booker, also up for re-election after just ten months in the Senate, was emphatic about his support for Udall against “the other Cory” Republican Congressman Cory Gardner, who’s running to unseat Colorado’s senior senator.
“I consider him a mentor senator to me,” Booker told The Colorado Independent, emphasizing Udall’s work ethic, attention to detail and bipartisanship, particularly in the face of natural disasters in Colorado.
“During the time I’ve been in the Senate Colorado has faced some really tough issues,” said Booker. “To watch the way this guy goes into action, fights for his state, and pulls people together on both sides of the aisle to deal with issues like flood and fire really was inspiring to me and example to me about how we should be working in the US Senate.” - Colorado Independent, 8/25/14
By the way, the anti-choice crowd has been backing Gardner and putting the pressure on Udall to back radical anti-choice decisions but Udall isn't having any of it:
http://blogs.denverpost.com/...
Udall’s campaign believes Gardner is wrong on women’s issues.
“It’s no surprise that the biggest defenders of Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock, who both made national headlines for their crass and demeaning comments on rape, are parachuting into Colorado to help Congressman Gardner, who wrote a bill to make abortion a felony in cases of rape,” said Udall’s campaign spokeswoman, Kristin Lynch.
“Coloradans won’t be swayed by radical groups like the Susan B. Anthony List. Voters know that Mark respects women and trusts them to make the best decisions for themselves and their families.”
Akin, of Missouri, and Mourdock, of Indiana, were GOP Senate candidates whose comments on rape helped doom their campaigns.
“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down,” Akin said.
“I think even when life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen,” Mourdock said.
The group sponsoring the rally is Students for Life, which makes no mention of Gardner on its website. Gardner voted for the bill limiting late-term abortions.
Democrats have had successes in recent years by accusing Republicans of waging a war on women, but the GOP is fighting back now, accusing their opponents of focusing on that issue at the expense of others, such as energy and the economy.
In a Quinnipiac University poll of Colorado voters in July, when offered four choices on abortion: 29 percent of Colorado voters say abortion should be legal in all cases; 35 percent say it should be legal in most cases; 22 percent say it should be illegal in most cases; and 10 percent say it should be illegal in all cases. - Denver Post, 8/26/14
