Reince Priebus is
frantically trying to spin the internal Republican polls finding that women don't like the Republican Party because it's "intolerant," "lacking in compassion," and "stuck in the past." The RNC chairman's main argument is that there are also women who have unfavorable views of the Democratic Party, so it's not too much of a problem that there are
more women with unfavorable views of the GOP.
When it comes to the deficit on the issues the poll identified for Republicans, Priebus is equally unconvincing:
He cited the report’s findings that female voters care primarily about the economy, jobs, health care and education as evidence that the Republican Party could still win over female voters. “[I]f you push back on what the Democrats are selling out there in the field, you can actually win women over,” he said.
The memo found that Democrats have a major advantage with female voters who care about those four major issues.
So, Democrats have huge advantages on the issues women care most about. And Reince is suggesting that this is
good news for Republicans because ... uh, yeah, you got me. The only way this makes any sense is if Republicans haven't been talking about the economy, jobs, health care, and education at all, but now they're going to start and their ideas are just what women will want to hear. But in fact, Republicans have totally been talking about these things—just not in ways that women like. You know, trying to take people's health care away, blocking the Paycheck Fairness Act, refusing to pass jobs bills, and so on. The entire Republican economic agenda, basically. Saying "oh, this poll that says women care most about these issues and prefer Democrats on all of them is good news for Republicans because we are going to talk about these issues now" only works if people are going to like what you say.
Even by Reince Priebus standards, this is just pitiful.
