When I got outside, there was haze in the air, thicker off to the east.
While Portland is hardly smog-free, I can't usually see the air I'm breathing, so I started wondering how close the fires were.
A quick search showed mostly information on the fires down at the Oregon-California border, but one of them had this link to a .gov site that shows the locations of fires currently known. Three locations are fairly close to Portland, since the Cascades are not really all that far off.
I'm feeling sorry for the people fighting these fires - Eastern Oregon is high desert. I do believe there is more water available there than in much of California at the moment, but it's still summer, and still dry over there.
