Good evening, Kibitzers! Welcome to part 999,999 of my million-part Detroit camera dump! Well, maybe it's only part 999,998 -- I'm not sure if the rest of the pictures are one group or two. This, however, is the food pr0n portion of the program.
On Friday after the Elizabeth Warren speech, I joined a group of Kossacks who were hastening out to get something to eat before the water demonstration. We had obtained intelligence that a place called Cobo Joe's was directly across the street from the far end of the Cobo Center, and that they even had a special menu for Netroots Nation attendees.
As it turned out, they have a convention-friendly policy of giving their regular menu items aliases appropriate to whoever's in the Cobo Center, and then distributing the special menus on paper as a souvenir. Pretty clever marketing, plus the food was tasty.
See some of these dishes below the homemade potato chip. Photos of the people who ordered the food are in this diary (while photos of some non-food events are in this diary.)
I was determined to order the "Rev. Barber" sandwich, partly because of Rev. Dr. Barber, and partly because: BBQ brisket on an onion roll!
I am not certain what the rest of these are, although I am reasonably sure the next one is the "Grassroots". Feel free to entertain yourselves by matching the sandwich to the menu item; those who ordered are welcome to provide identification.
Of course some drinks were ordered! Cobo Joe's serves many mixed drinks in a slanted highball glass, as shown at left, with the proviso that, should the glass start looking vertical, one must stop ordering. The beer was available in pints, demonstrated at right by paradise50.
Whenever I break bread with Kossacks, I always wish that somehow our meal could be in a giant restaurant in some kind of transdimensional space (
Milliways, maybe) and that
everyone could join us. Until we figure that out, I guess we'll just have to keep attending meetups when we can!

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
