Seriously, this bird is elusive. Trying to get a photo is like trying for a good shot of Bigfoot.
I talked about this last week in the comments. Having photos is not much of an improvement.
For some reason, we have have had a small population of chickadees near our cabin that are leucistic to varying degrees. I've been seeing them for a number of years. Here is a normally colored Chestnut-backed Chickadee:
Chestnut back, black wing, crown, chin and tail, kind of grey below. And of course cute because it's a chickadee.
Some of the birds have only a little bit of leucism (feathers that are paler than normal) like this one which has a few white primaries.
Some have a little more, like the one on the right, who has a smattering of lighter colored feathers on its back:
This one, who was actually pretty cooperative about being photographed, has more of the pale back feathers and a pale crown to boot:
But Moby don't pose...
Moby has a very pale crown, an almost pure white back, extensive white in the wings, and a white tail. (In this photo, s/he is hammering at a seed, head on the left side.)
