To be precise, it's getting hot in the 93rd House District of Alabama comprised of Dale and Houston Counties nestling on northern border of Florida to the south, to the east bordering on the section of the Chattahoochee River that forms the border between Alabama and Georgia. HD 93 has never had a contest before and its incumbent, a Steve Clouse, has been obliged to take unfamiliar positions on health care and education because of the challenge issued to his seat by Dr. Jennifer S. Marsden:
Dr. Jennifer [S.] Marsden, a family physician and Army veteran from Newton, is the first woman ever to run for the House District 93 seat in the Alabama Legislature .... Marsden, a Democrat, is opposing Steve Clouse, R-Ozark, who currently holds the seat representing the district in the southeastern area of the state. He was elected to the House in 1994, according to his website. Marsden is the only Democratic candidate seeking the District 93 seat, which includes southeastern Dale County and parts of western Houston County, as well as a portion of western Dothan.
More, below the fold.
Because of Dr. Marsden's candidacy in the 93rd:
Clouse Favors Medicaid Expansion, Says ACA Saved AL Money
Chairman of the Alabama House of Representatives Ways and Means General Fund Committee, Representative Steve Clouse, R-Ozark, has recently told media outlets that he favors the expansion of Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, more widely known as Obamacare, as long as Alabama's share of funding for the expansion does not exceed ten percent of the its total cost.
Until now, Rep. Clouse, like nearly all Republican members of the Alabama Legislature, has opposed Medicaid expansion, citing unforeseen costs and increased government dependency.
And on education, Clouse has been obliged to buy a front page ad in the Dothan Eagle promising:
MORE FUNDS
FOR DALE & HOUSTON K-12 SCHOOLS.
Over 2.2 Million Dollar increase for Dale & Houston K-12 schools this school year.
featuring Mr. Clouse in a banker's suit and shiny black shoes looking very out of place reading a story to a surprised and goggle-eyed bunch of kindergarten kids.
Thank you, Doctor Marsden, on behalf of health care and education in Alabama.
And the political sign people thank you, too, Doctor Marsden. In desperation, Clouse has had to buy a bunch of campaign signs to counter the proliferation of signs supporting Doctor Marsden's campaign springing up in yards in the 93rd.
Plus, the usual rumors abound -- Republican voters complaining of numerous and repetitive Marsden campaign calls, one at least at 3 AM. Not so according to the Marsden campaign. Republicans only get one call unless they need a Marsden response. Sounds like a false flag attempt to sabotage the Marsden campaign.
Yeppers, Women running for office in Alabama are raising the temp. Got to put in another plug for a woman:
