Just tried to go into the main terminal of Grand Central tonight after I finished playing a gig, but was told by cops behind one of those ubiquitous barricades seen on the streets that it was closed.
So I took a lap in the frigid dropping weather with a sign that read "Blue Silence = Black Death, #copspeakout," passing a few unfortunate souls lying on the streets, scrawled #BlackLivesMatter on a couple of places with a mega Sharpie and went home.
I'm happy to report that earlier in the night there were plenty of folks who answered the #CarryTheNames call, a #BlackLivesMatter action at #Grand Central.
Below is a brief photo digest of that event from Twitter. Signs were provided by the generous and indefatigable We Will Not Be Silent folks.
(As an aside, on the car ride up WNYC replayed a very moving Leonard Lopate interview this past afternoon with Michael Brown, Sr. "On How The World Has, And Has Not, Changed After The Death of His Son" that's worth listening to.)
