Many of you know SnoopyDawg from her diaries about Charlie (the beagle) and her pups last year. SnoopyDawg has been with DKos since August of 2005 and comments frequently on many diaries.
She has an older lab named Abby and a younger Beagle named Charlie, both of whom are having health issues that require a visit to the veterinarian. Both dogs are off their food, the lab is barely walking, and the Beagle is suffering periods of shakiness. These dogs, while not officially service dogs, are often the only thing that keeps Snoopy up and moving from day to day.
She's also disabled from a work injury and she's been told by her attorney that her disability will come through in two month's time. She's been exploring bankruptcy and getting her mortgage refinanced to lower the payments, as well as applying for help through Hud. She's already sold everything she had to pay for utilities and food.
The problem is this: She's currently several months behind on her mortgage and has no income until her SSI goes through. She can't pay next months mortgage, her utilities, or for vet care for her dogs. She's barely managing food for all through her Aunt and what little is left in her savings.
She can't sit or stand for a long period of time, goes to see her Chiropractor twice a week and has to travel 130 miles to see a pain doctor. Luckily Workman's Comp still helps defray some of that expense, but as you can imagine, the travel itself takes its toll.
She and I talk on a daily basis, but I honestly think without her dogs she'd sink into a deeper depression with everything she's facing right now.
So, what she needs is: $776 for next month's mortgage, $60 for a vet visit plus money for tests to find out what's going on with her precious dogs. Also, she's currently about $2500 behind on her mortgage, including late fees, and if we can get those paid up, it will go a long way into giving her breathing space and time to come up with a solution once her SSI comes through and she has an income. The mortgage councilor won't even work with her until that comes into place, and if she's in foreclosure before that happens they won't work with her at all.
Rent in her area runs $800+/month and as her family is in this area, giving what support they can afford and are able to give, she's loathe to move away. Keeping the house she loves and is already in is the BEST option for her and her dogs.
All of you have been so generous in the past, for my family and for so many others. We're getting by right now, but my friend, she needs help.
Her paypal account is snoopydawg@earthlink.net Every little bit helps. Thank you so much for your time, your tips, recs and anything else you can do!
1:28 PM PT: Right now we're sitting at $105 plus some promised later tonight or later in the month. This will at least get one of the dogs seen at the vet and hopefully take care of blood tests or x-rays.
2:00 PM PT: Now up to $205, thank you all very much. That's a lot of help! I bet we can get next month's mortgage paid at least though!
