Even when it comes to marijuana, they're out to help the 1%.
How Right-Wingers in One State Are Trying to Give Elites Control of the Marijuana Industry
By Thom Hartmann / Thom Hartmann Show | February 20, 2015
In Washington state, despite the ongoing legalization of 'marijuana, there is some unresolved issue with 'medical marijuana'. There are now 2 different bills put forth seeking to manage this situation. One is by a republican and the other is from a Democrat.
The Republican measure, introduced by State Sen. Ann Rivers, would put much of the control of Washington's medical marijuana market in the hands of a few very wealthy individuals.
And it would wrestle it out of the hands of the normal people who have been dealing with this since well-before legalization became a reality. Republicans, of course, want to smash the little guy and prop-up the already filthy rich.
The Democrats bill has it, of course, correct and is a model for how DEMOCRATS need to be approaching this use: This bill
would allow anyone in Washington who's 21 years or older to grow up to six marijuana plants and to share up to an ounce of marijuana with other adults, as long as money isn't exchanged.
The Democrats' bill would also pave the way for more marijuana growers to be licensed and for more retail shops to pop up across the state ... you know, let a thousand small businesses grow!
I used to make the joke that Pat Buchanan was all for marijuana legalization, as long as white people got the best of it first.
The republican legislation essentially ensconsces this value system and seeks to breate pretty much just that. Take it away from EVERYBODY, screw jobs for people, screw people being able to earn a real dollar. Give that potential profit to people who are so choked on money they'll never need the money these jobs will provide.
And the Democrat's legislation says pretty much what I would ask: let everybody grow it: do with it what you will.
Once cannabis legal, you can use it for fun, for medicine, for agriculture, for profit - whatever.
Democratic laws would support that.
Republican laws will seek to screw the 99%, quite clearly and unapologetically.
At least the Republicans are consistent, I guess.
