Teacher's Comments from Mr. W:
My Students: "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge. You have to learn the rules of the game. And then you have to play better than anyone else." Albert Einstein. We are currently preparing students for jobs that don't exist yet.
My students are in a high poverty location in the big city. Most of the students that I teach speak two languages, English and Spanish. A majority of the students I teach get free or reduced school lunch. They live in a hard neighborhood but they love coming to school. My students are all gifted and talented. They are awesome kids to work with.
My Project: The students that are in Talented and Gifted class have a new curriculum that mentioned littleBits. We need this technology so we are able to do the experiments that are in the TPSP. Texas performance standard project. Our students will have opportunities to work together and have fun solving problems involving Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. These are the bright, talented kids who do well with academic tasks, but need exposure to materials with applications outside of a textbook. They have already demonstrated the ability to collaborate, think divergently, and solve problems creatively. Now, we need tools to extend those abilities. The Students will use these "littleBits kits" to explore solutions to open ended problems with electricity and electronics. Through these investigations, the students will not only learn about how these devices work, but actually what it takes to make them work and troubleshoot when they don't.
By providing these kits, you are giving our students the tools to not only understand basic concepts with electricity and electronics, but also apply what they learn to create and build solutions to problems with hands-on experiences.
