On Sunday, 3/21/15 my wife and I decided to travel about an hour and a half north of Seattle and visit the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Since it had been unseasonably warm all winter the daffodils and tulips were in bloom early and we wanted to take advantage of the sparse crowds and spectacular sights. We were not disappointed.
First, before I show you the pictures let me give just a little background on the area and the festival.
Skagit Valley is a special place that stretches from saltwater beaches on the Salish Sea to snow-capped Cascade peaks. The mild climate, ample rainfall and fertile soil combine to make agriculture the top industry here.
Skagit Country is wold-famous for its tulips and tulip festival. For more than 30 years the festival, held the entire month of April, celebrates the flowering jewels. Each year it attracts between 300,000 to 400,000 visitors from around the world.
Most of the tulips are grown by two companies: the Roozens of RoozenGaarde and the DeGoedes of Tulip Town. We chose to visit the fields of RoozenGaarde.
This weekend looks like the peak time to visit but then again I don't want any of you to miss the meet up!
Follow below the orange whatever you call it to see the pics (all taken by me). Enjoy!
As nature dictates the daffodils kick off the show! We noticed some fields had gone past their prime bloom time but others were still spectacular!
They call me endless yellow. Quite rightly!
People (illegally) frolicking in the field!
Right there with them to celebrate the beginning of spring are the hyacinths.
But the main attraction, of course, are the tulips. Endless fields of nature's splendor on display!
And then there are the sculpted garden beds where varieties are mixed and matched.
Let me throw in a few close ups of my favorites.
And, of course, there are plenty of other sights to take in. Here is just one that caught our eye.
It was a wonderful day!
P.S. For some reason some of my best photos would not upload. I think it was the setting I used on my camera but it said there were errors. Just one more reason you should plan to visit the Skagit Valley Tulip festival in person some day soon!
So Seattle & Puget Sound Kossacks - If you skip out on our meet up and instead go to the Skagit Country Tulip festival I'll understand but you'll be missed! And I'll expect a photo diary of your own!
Hope to see you Sunday!
