Teacher's Comments from Mrs. Fatsy:
My Students: Help my students become little scientists! They would love to have the opportunity to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) concepts using hands-on materials.
My students attend an inner-city STEM school. All of the students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Most of them attend before and after school programs at no or very little cost. The district does not have extra money to purchase the materials needed for our classroom.
My Project: The requested STEM materials would provide my students the opportunity to learn and explore STEM in the classroom in a hands-on way. These science materials will engage students in the exploration of STEM. STEM involves building models and simulating situations. It incorporates math and students make connections to the real world. These materials will help students learn to problem solve and think critically while experimenting and exploring STEM. STEM education provides children with valuable ideas, skills, and potential future career choices. Children are naturally curious and this is the best time to spark their interest. STEM shapes our everyday experiences. My students need the requested STEM science stations for motion and magnets, a STEM bundle, and STEM learning Kits.
STEM shapes our everyday experience and it is intertwined in the real world; from cooking dinner to growing a garden, from recycling to comprehending weather reports, from reading a map to using a computer. It is important to expose children to STEM education and to provide them the opportunities to explore stem related concepts in order for them to develop passion for it early on in their lives.
