Folks, this was pretty amazing. (Watch here if you missed it.)
I don't know that we can squeeze anymore people in here. Thank you so much for coming out.
In a suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana, Bernie Sanders attracted about 4,500 people to his rally. This would be a huge number for a progressive primary candidate speaking in Seattle, but, again, we're talking about Louisiana.
I was particularly struck by how Bernie opened his speech declaring that Democrats must visit all 50 states -- even the red ones. His rationale is important: these are the states with the most hungry kids, the most uninsured -- these are the places where the progressive message is needed most!
When people have no work, when kids have no food, when folks have no health insurance, that's where we should be, including Louisiana!
And, yes, this was the most enthusiastic crowd I have heard yet. Without fear of hyperbole, they cheered Bernie like a rock star. Again, that is not hyperbole.
Yes, in Louisiana, 4,500 (screaming) people came to hear an "old socialist from Vermont" talk to them.
Bernie sure is something special.
