an agent of the oligarchy. I was a fool and I publicly admit it. All the BS about "hope" and "yes we can". I swallowed it and it tasted good even if it was s**t.
Obama will always be a symbol to me of the omnipotence of the oligarchy and its ability to destroy. If he could swindle so many for them who can stop them?
The last words in Naomi Klein's book say this:
Ask him: History knocked at your door, did you answer?
The words were not directed at Obama but need to be. Read on below and I'll share my disgust with you.
The Arctic drilling is just one more step on the way to destroying everything precious about our planet home. I knew the truth of what I am saying for a long time but held it in and hoped in vain.
It came early actually. I was keynote speaker at a think tank about agriculture and related issues including the environment and Global Warming in October of 2007 while I was deep into almost (literally) killing myself working for the Obama campaign. My job was to bring complex systems theory to the very knowledgeable and powerful group assembled at a fancy resort in Montana. We were almost all in tune with the urgency of the situation and the harm being done on a big scale.
I warned them about giving too much credit to the power of individual humans in a large complex self organizing system. I think they understood me but like so many who do they went into denial. It had to be true that we humans had the power to stop what we had put into motion long ago. That systems, once created and allowed to grow, could have a life of their own was not something that they wanted to hear. My message was not popular then nor is it now.
Then Obama was elected and we were barely able to congratulate ourselves when he began making his horrible cabinet appointments. Big agriculture, Wall Street, etc. We should have known then. Four years later we mechanically obeyed and got him reelected.
I don't need to belabor this. Nor do I need to be lectured about the obvious good things he has done. It is clear to me that if he is the best we have we are lost.
