Mugshot of Walter Ruck
What started out as a routine telemarketing call to a woman in Oregon quickly turned into a very
serious life-or-death scenario:
"The young lady on the other end never said, 'Hello,'" call center supervisor Tina Garcia said. [...]
Workers at the call center could hear the woman being attacked, with screaming, whimpers and a man saying, "Get up!"
"You could actually hear the blows as if he was hitting a punching bag," Garcia said.
They called the Linn County Sheriff's office and kept the phone call live, as police went to check on the possible assault.
When they got to the residence:
Deputies entered the home and saw 33-year-old Walter Ruck holding the woman from behind. However, when Ruck saw the deputies, he let her go.
Deputies said she was crying and gasping for air as she ran past them and out the door. After further investigation, deputies learned the woman was held down, physically assaulted and smothered with blankets and pillows during the attack.
Ruck has been charged with Fourth Degree Assault, Menacing and Strangulation.
