I believe it was day before yesterday that I said I didn't want to read it, hear it or talk about it. I was writing about "you know where".
As Britney Spears famously said, "Oops, I've Done It Again".
Follow me down the rabbit hole again.
Oklahoma bill would ban DUI offenders from buying alcohol
Washington Times Tuesday 6th January, 2015
Sen. Patrick Anderson is proposing a bill that would require DUI offenders to carry an identification card that declares they are ; alcohol restricted,'; prohibiting them from buying or consuming alcohol for a court-approved period of time. The Republican’s bill would allow courts to order a person convicted of a DUI to abstain from drinking alcohol for a period of time determined by the judge. I watched Sen. Patrick Anderson on Huffington Post Live. My takeaway from the interview is Sen. Anderson isn't interested in whether or not the bill passes. For him, this is pandering to his base of right-winged terrorists in our state. It is face-time on shows like HP Live.
He related how an elderly man travelled to Alaska and learned that convicted DUI offenders aren't allowed to buy or consume liquor. The senator said he wrote the bill because the man called him up with 'this good idea'. Anderson then went into a rambling explanation about how the offenders would be identified and he also said that anyone who sold alcohol to an offender would be charged with a felony. This would include bartenders and liquor retailers.
The interviewer was very aggressive, (good on him and Anderson stuck to his guns about how his scheme would play out.
How much would this cost my state if the bill passes? He did reveal that the motor vehicle department would take the license and put a red bar on it and we know that will cost $$$$$. Unfortunately, the interviewer ran out of time and didn't get to ask about the cost.
If I drank, guess where I would be going right now? Luckily, I've never been convicted of a DUI.
