Innocent people gunned down by mentally ill maniacs with full access to guns? Meh.
Ben Carson hosted a version of a Q&A on Facebook on Monday night. He takes questions via AskBen@BenCarson.com and then chooses a few to respond to each night. Last night, he selected a question on Second Amendment rights and his response was nothing short of outrageous:
The first question tonight comes from Dan. He wants to know if the tragedy has altered my position as a supporter of the Second Amendment.
Dan, I grew up in the slums of Detroit. I saw plenty of gun violence as a child. Both of my cousins were killed on the streets. As a Doctor, I spent many a night pulling bullets out of bodies. There is no doubt that this senseless violence is breathtaking – but I never saw a body with bullet holes that was more devastating than taking the right to arm ourselves away. Serious people seek serious solutions. The Left would prefer to use these tragedies to advance a political agenda. To me, that is also devastatingly sad. The Left would have you believe that a man that asked Christians to stand up (and then executed them one by one) would obey “new gun laws”. That kind of logic explains many of the problems we find ourselves in today.
Maybe Dr. Ben Carson should sit down and view photos of the victims from the
62 mass shootings in the United States since 1982. We are talking about a mentally ill shooter who was able to legally acquire
13 guns and loads of ammo. It's clear to everyone but Republican candidates, who seem hell bent on pandering to the NRA at the expense of the rest of us, that we need to have stricter gun control in this country.
Polls show the majority of Americans want more gun regulations, even current gun owners.
For Republican candidates to continue to hide behind an antiquated and often misunderstood Second Amendment is the definition of cowardice. To think that this country's founders wouldn't have evolved on the issue is outrageous. They could've never have imagined a world where we have air conditioning, air travel or computers in our pockets—let alone a horrific trend of mentally ill people having open access to weapons of war—and using them on innocent people and children. They would have evolved and it's time for us to evolve as a society—even Republican candidates.
But, hey—at least he did do something. As you can see below, his staff created a do-nothing meme promoting Christianity to boost his profile and show fake "support" for the victims and their families of the latest massacre. I'm sure the families will sleep better now, knowing that Ben Carson's Christian meme went viral.
