I admit it, I was wrong. I was one of those stupid atheists believing that Pope Francis was “different.”
I naively thought the some at the Vatican had looked at a calendar and realized it was 2015, and saw that the world had changed. I hoped that this new dynamic Pope was a signal that the Church was going to move in a more progressive direction. That maybe, just maybe, seeds were being sown that would lead to women’s equality within the Church, and a move away from their vicious anti-LGBT foundation.
Perhaps like so many other Christian denominations, I thought, the Church would leave behind its insane views on things such as birth control, and gays and lesbians.
But I was wrong.
The entire dog and pony show of Papacy of Pope Francis is a scam, a marketing ploy. And the Pope himself proved it by meeting secretly with homophobe Kim Davis.
The Pope sent a message loud and clear to the fundamentalists in the Church. His secret meeting with Davis was a wink and a nod to those worried that the Church was not going tolerate hatred of gays.
The talk of an “evolving” Church (as stated by Time Magazine in July) is all just marketing. This Pope and the Church understand that their extreme prejudice of LGBT individuals is not good marketing. So the Pope puts on a public persona of love of understanding toward gays, while behind everybody’s back, embraces a homophobic piece of shit like Davis.
It’s sad that the Pope didn’t have the courage to publicly stand with Davis. The coward was afraid of the bad press he would get for standing up for his true beliefs.
How sad.
So please, save your talk about how “progressive” this Pope is, and how the Church is “evolving” on the issue of gays. Your leader, his “Holiness,” got caught in his phony marketing ploy when he showed his, and the Church’s real stand on homosexuality.
