"The American people are sick of hearing about your damn emails."
This wasn't some favor Sanders did for Clinton. I appreciate the moment in its symbolism of Democrats standing up together against right wing and media bull. It was the best theater of the night to be sure and it has more than one meaning. But, as usual, Sanders' blunt truthfulness is his best weapon in winning this race. He wasn't stomping on eGhazi for Hillary but so the race can get to what matters. So he can win.
eGhazi has been used for months to bury the lede about what is happening in the Democratic race. To obscure the meaning of Sanders' rise among Democrats and his appeal to independents.
Ostensibly the GOP and the press pick on Hillary with but to what real cost in the primaries? This kind of garbage is already baked in with Democrats being used to right wing b.s. coming at her for decades now. It's a major part of her appeal. "She stands up to them!" In fact, eGhazi, in the context of the primaries, has been hurting Sanders far more than Clinton. Bernie Sanders is out there fighting for oxygen against one of the most famous people in the world. And as he finds solid ground with all these passionate supporters who believe in his message can he parlay that surprising level of support to showcase his appeal to a growing base? Not when EVERY news story shrugs off his success as a response to the stupid "scandal" that has nothing to do with his appeal.
This is a "scandal" that is so obviously a right wing attack that it has done nothing but help Hillary in the primaries even as it was used by the press to make Sanders invisible. It's Sanders who needs it to die, not Hillary.
Not to take away from the kumbaya feeling about that moment. It was great. But it was also great politics.
